What is a Biokinetics?

Biokinetics is the medical profession that believes in life through movement and forms part of a medical team that helps you heal, recover and strengthen. This medical profession is different from others because it uses exercise as treatment and no other form of treatments such as surgery, medicine, dry needling, massage or joint manipulations. Biokinetics is a profession concerned with health promotion, the maintenance of physical abilities and final phase rehabilitation, through scientifically-based physical activity programme prescription. Biokinetics primary function is to improve physical functioning and health care through exercise as a modality.


So, in a nutshell, you will be supported and guided to improve your life and the movement of your body, that’s two fundamentals of life that cannot be valued in currency.

A Biokineticist is a clinical exercise specialist who:

Is a health professional who through health promotion and wellness creates a better quality of life for people they work with and act as functions within the professional alliance to health and medicine, and is recognized by and registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.

They evaluate and measure, body posture, body composition, blood pressure, glucose levels, lung function, heart rate, fitness, muscle strength, endurance, power, flexibility and other health screenings. They also improve a person’s physical well-being and quality of life through individualised scientific assessment and the prescription of exercise in rehabilitative treatment to prevent or intervene with certain ailments and the enhancement of performance (sport and work).

So again, in a nutshell, Biokinetics is the way of improving an individual’s quality of life through movement and exercise, which prescribes scientifically-based physical activities to promote health, maintain and improve physical abilities and facilitate injury rehabilitation, by creating a personalised program for your unique requirements.

Biokineticists are unique in the sense that they prescribe exercise programs that are individually designed and scientifically based. These programs are regularly updated to ensure safety and continuous improvement.
