Erna Bruwer

Background & Experience:

Owner, Dr Erna Bruwer, completed her pre- and post-graduate studies (honours, masters and doctorate in Biokinetics) at the North-West University (PUK). Her academic background ensures clinical reasoning and excellence in especially final phase exercise rehabilitation of sport and orthopedic injuries.

She was previously employed by the North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, in a permanent position as lecturer (2008 to 2016), lecturing on pre-graduate level (Basic Anatomy, Applied Anatomy and Biomechanics), as well as Orthopedic evaluation and rehabilitation to the Biokinetics honours students. During her position as lecturer, she was involved in several peer reviewed scientific publications, delivered local and international conference presentations and was supervisor and co-supervisor for post-graduate students. Employment positions prior to the lecturing included manager of the NWU’s Biokinetics training facility and she also functioned as the Biokineticist of the U/21 rugby squad of the PUK for two years.

Her experience in final phase orthopedic rehabilitation has been recognized by the Biokinetics Associations of South Africa (BASA) and she was approached to present several talks and workshops on rehabilitation of shoulder injuries at BASA roadshows, BASA conferences and SASMA 2017 (South African Sports Medicine Association). She was also previously approached to give input in non-scientific publications on sports injuries for Rapport, Beeld & Longevity.

Marcus

Marcus Gunton

Bsc Hons Biokinetics
Background & Experience:

Marcus completed his undergraduate (BSc Sport Science), postgraduate (BSc Hons, Biokinetics) and Internship at the University of Stellenbosch between 2019 and 2023. He has a background as a competitive swimmer and still holds 3 provincial records for 100m and 200m breaststroke (SC) and 50m freestyle (LC) which now stands for 14 years. He has experience in dealing with injuries and burnout as a swimmer and thus is passionate about helping others who might find themselves in the same position without proper guidance.

Sport specific conditioning, injury prevention and rehabilitation (particularly for swimming)

Dirk Maass

Bsc Hons Biokinetics
Background & Experience:

Dirk completed his undergraduate (BSc Sport Science) and postgraduate (BSc (Hons) Biokinetics) degrees at the University of Stellenbosch, graduating 2018 and 2019 respectively. During this time he was employed part-time as a body conditioning and spinning instructor for Maties Gymnasium. He has a keen interest in multisport conditioning, particularly triathlon athletes.
